What is The Donovan Bailey Fund?
Created by five-time World and Olympic Champion, Donovan Bailey, The Donovan Bailey Fund is committed to the advancement and assistance of Canada’s most talented amateur athletes, so that they too may have an opportunity to achieve Gold.
Each year the Donovan Bailey Fund will award an assistance grant to Canadian athletes who have demonstrated excellence in an Olympic sport – summer or winter – and financial need. Grants to athletes will be made through their respective amateur sports organizations and will be carefully monitored by the Fund Trustees to ensure that all funds are used for approved purposes.
How Does the Donovan Bailey Fund Raise Money?
The Donovan Bailey Fund raises money in two important ways: First, the Fund relies on the support of both corporate Canada and private citizens, committed to the future of Canada’s great young amateur athletes; and second, Donovan Bailey himself contributes directly to the Fund a portion of all monies earned by him. The Donovan Bailey Fund has charitable status and donors will receive a tax receipt.
Who Decides Which Athletes Will Receive an Assistance Grant From the Fund?
Our executive Board consists of distinguished members of the Canadian sport and business communities who will consider all applications, and determine the successful applicant(s).
