OUR MISSION
It has been said, "an oak tree is but an acorn that stood its ground." In most cases the same thought goes for every living thing on this planet. If you give a living thing the proper nurturing elements, it will flourish. If you give crops fertile soil you will produce remarkable yields. Likewise, if you give a child a strong foundation you give him the opportunity to grow in a positive direction. This is where the concept behind The CAG Foundation originated. We feel that athletics can play a remarkably positive role in the lives of today's youth. Through athletics many have learned to work as a team. They have learned that color and social status mean nothing and that teamwork means everything. Athletics can provide youth with discipline, direction and a strong sense of belonging. Self-esteem is built, and accountability is practiced. These positive actions can help a child steer clear of gangs, drugs and after school trouble. Possibly they will even receive a college degree one day.

THE PROBLEM
In some schools, various conditions can keep a youth away from athletics. A serious problem is that of "academic ineligibility." Today, it is mandatory for a high school athlete to maintain a 2.0 grade point average to be eligible to participate in school athletic programs. Many kids struggle through school because of a lack of study habits and find themselves in a downward spiral when it comes to succeeding academically.

THE SOLUTION
In these very schools, The CAG Foundation's goal is to seek out the struggling athlete. He or she will go to groups for tutorial aid and study-skill development. Any student athlete can take advantage of these services. Consideration for the student's time schedule will be made, even if it means decreased practice time. An academically ineligible athlete is no good for the team and even worse for society. We as a community have a responsibility to provide student athletes with the tools needed for academic success.

It is important to remember why student athletes are so special. After a full days academic schedule they continue to challenge themselves physically in practice and in contests. They are then expected to spend their few hours of free time studying. It is a heavy load to carry at a young age, but for those that make it, a better person they become because of it.

Our foundation will not cure all the ills that plague modern day athletics, but it will help. If we put our minds to helping a cause, even if it's just a little help, things will start to improve around us. And with a little help usually comes a lot of good. Just look what it did for the acorn.
