The Brian Mitchell Foundation (BMF) is a non-profit organization designed to enhance the lives of youth through programs and projects that enrich the wholesome development of sprit, mind and body.
BMF was incorporated in 2001 in an effort to formally organize and maintain Mr. Mitchell's numerous philanthropic endeavors in Plaquemine, LA, Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia, PA
The foundation was born from the inspiration, vision and desire of Brian Mitchell to implement a not-for-profit agency that serves the needs of "disadvantaged: youth in his communities. He inherited this legacy of care taking and community building from his parents, Blanche' and Sophonia, while growing up in Plaquemine, Louisiana. As the youngest of four brothers and two sisters, his parents instilled in him the notion that "it takes a village to raise a child." Subsequently, Brian has carried this value with him throughout his life.
Brian's strong sense of charitable giving began with the founding of the "Brian Mitchell Returning To Your Roots Program." This program was established to support the youth population of Plaquemine, LA by providing them with academic scholarships, after-school programs and holiday dinner baskets. While playing and living in Washington D.C. Brian actively supported and served several non-profit organizations including the American Heart Association; the MS Society; the Ronald McDonald House; the Metropolitan Police Boys and Girls Club; CSAAC and a host of local food banks.
As a noted humanitarian and community-enegaged citizen, Mr. Mitchell had donated countless resources to initiatives aimed at fostering the healthy development of young people, as well as organizations everywhere that possess a similar passion for making a difference.

Mr. Mitchell:
The Washington, DC community would like to thank you not only for your ability to play the professional sport of football but for sharing your vision to empower today’s youths. Many times people forget that in the midst of so much richness and affluence in Washington that there are children who go without because they do not have the resources of others more fortunate. Thank you and others like you (Darrell Green, Art Monk and Mike Nelms) for your graciousness and kindness and Godly principles that allow you to share with those who are less fortunate. Thank God for the village and for your parents!!
