Specs or No Specs?
Hi All-
First of all thank you for your comments, it’s fun to get them and hear what you have to say. On that note, I need everyone’s opinion. I have to make a decision on my prescription glasses when I pitch. If you don’t know I wear Oakley glasses on the field. As superficial as this sounds, I really need to make a decision on getting lasik or sticking with the glasses.
I have a really tough time wearing contacts, my specs are convenient to put on and off, I can see way better (obviously), but I’m getting sick of them fogging while I’m out on the mound or sweat getting on the lens. I also seriously think they look kinda lame! So let me know whether I should stick with the specs? or go lasik?
OK more importantly…
After nearly two months since I started my 2009 season, I finally have some light at the end of the tunnel. I just got home from spending six days in extended spring Arizona– where it feels like a blow dryer is in your face every time you step outside. No wonder the games start at 10 am. Maybe the Rangers should start doing that!
In the six days in the desert I made two starts, which felt great. Good to get back on the mound and facing hitters. A couple of you asked me when I was making my start in Tacoma, so to answer your question I will be on the mound Saturday night and can’t wait! So I hope to see you all there.
While I’m at it I think I’ll continue this blog with answering some of your questions.
Sarah and Audrey asked me who I think is the best player in baseball or who I enjoy watching- First of all thanks for the really nice comments. Very positive. So who do I think? There are so many different elements in baseball that can make someone great but honestly the guy I am most impressed with every time I watch him is Joe Mauer, the Twins catcher. He is an amazing hitter, very patient, and a really tough out. He is always in the middle of a big inning and controls their pitching staff very well. Plus he’s a good guy.
Best pitcher would be Roy Halladay hands down. I think the constant success and results he puts up every year is enough, but if you watch him, he can turn it up a notch when he gets in a jam and work through any situation. Being a pitcher I tend to pay most attention to pitchers when watching a game, so another guy I enjoy watching is Tim Lincecum. Looks like he is throwing a golf ball up there! Would love to have those mechanics.
Jenny, Marc and Peter- The Aussie beer topic once again! Jenny my favourite beer in Aus is Bluetongue Ginger Beer, can’t get it here in the USA, maybe Brad at Kangaroo and Kiwi needs to step it up. The reason Queenslanders main beer is named XXXX is because they can’t spell Beer! hahahaha, I love that joke. Vegemite is awesome! Megan is right, you just don’t see Fosters in Aus. Thanks for the info Peter about Crown lager, I really liked that beer but now I should just buy Fosters and look like a typical Aussie here in the US! Marc can still bring the Tooheys though!
Kiri- Thanks for the comment. About me giving advice…hmmm, I think I am still on the receiving end of that unless it’s the little clubhouse rules us rookies have to look out for. Most of the new guys this year got settled pretty quickly though. We always talk amongst each other about pitching as for who do I watch on out team? I think I take little bits from all of them. Washburn’s competitiveness, Bedard’s ability to stay the same in any situation. Felix’s stuff, Silva’s personality, and so on. They are just a few examples if that helps.
J- I’ll snowboard in winter, surf in summer! hows that? Gotta understand when you don’t grow up in the snow and you only get a couple weeks a year when you’re young to be in snow, you think it’s the best thing ever.
Ben- checked out the website, very cool but you gotta get more Mariners news up there! c’mon.
Fan-whats important to me? well everything you said, as well as my family, and my close friends. I grew up with and friends i have met through out my life, I think it’s important to have a good network of close friends who have different opinions and know you as you with agendas aside. Other things, as my career goes on I hope to become a good role model and ambassador for baseball and everything else I represent and believe in. As time goes on, I hope I will be able to express some of this stuff openly with you guys. Also staying healthy, being active and appreciating what I have not what I want.
Scotty- Grant Balfour and I are very close friends. We hang out around Christmas and New Years, and any chance we can hang out in the off season’s. We keep in touch and have a laugh over the phone every couple of days. He was someone I looked up to and I am stoked to have a mate like him.
I don’t think anyone has mixed me up for being Austrian but doing that commercial I did learn some stuff about Austria, what hats they wear, the instruments they play etc. I was nervous about that commercial though, I didn’t want it to be lame. My two older sisters would be the first to let me know if it sucked and they liked it so I was good to go.
Ethan- who’s the funniest guy in the clubhouse? There are a couple of comedians but Sweeney cracks me up on a daily basis yelling random stuff across the locker room.
Craig- I heard Channel 10 was going to show MLB games. That’s awesome. More baseball in Australia the better. They need to profile some of their home grown talent like Balfour, Moylan and who ever else gets up to the big leagues. Don’t be afraid to show some Mariner games too!My family wouldn’t have to watch it on MLB.COM with it freezing every 20 minutes on the bad internet connection. Let me know what teams they show most. Let me guess, Red Sox??
Westy – love the nickname! great, you really a bogan or is that just a funny name? For sure mate , come say hi when you’re at Dodger Stadium, hope I pitch but if not during batting practice come say hello.
OK, that’s all from me. Hope I got all your questions answered. Give me your take on the specs! hear from you soon!
RRS

Gotta have the specs, Mr. Hyphen! It’s sorta your trademark, like the Brim Reaper in Baltimore himself…
Please stick with the specs. Please continue to wear them proudly; they do not look lame.
Specs specs specs
Specs!
The specs definitely look cool, but really you should do whatever makes you feel most comfortable on the mound. If the specs make it harder to pitch, LASIK might be the way to go.
champ I think you should keep the glasses. It is player identification
it is what makes you YOU. Your hyphenated name, you are an aussie, your glasses and your aggressive approach on the mound are all things that set you apart. WHatever you choose you will still resemble superman
Te iubesc !!!!!! your shrugs
Hey RRS, I have to say that the specs are not lame at all, they are in fact very sexy. However, if Lasik will make you a better pitcher by not having to worry about the glasses all the time, I would say go for it.
So bottom line, the game comes first, but I like the look of the specs and I think a lot of people agree with me (we’ll see what the verdict is here in the comments).
No specs. Just can’t get used to them on you.Try a bit of both and see what works for you
Want you to guess what I would say!!!!!Very simple
I’ve worn specs for a long time–guess I’m beyond lasik now–but I would say, if an excellent doc say lasik will correct you well, do it. One less piece of equipment to worry about. Simplify, simplify.
By the way, Branyan needs to do something about that cup. He looks like a larger Norm Charlton out there on the basepaths. Get on his case. Give him a padded bra cup to put in there, or something. MoMoney might make you pay, but it would be worth it.
Definitely keep the specs! As others said, they’re your trademark and make you look pretty cool if you ask me. I get what you’re saying about the fog and sweat though… I have to same problem with my Oakleys when I go for a run. Do you have those hydrophobic lenses? I guess they’re supposed to wick away sweat and oil and stuff like that.
Anyway, glad to hear you’re well on your way back, Ryan. This team needs you out there!
Hi Ryan,
Thanks for your latest entry and your answer about the players that impress you. Hopefully the heat in Arizona is a positive – I am exicted about your comeback. The wait must be along and frustrating – I know the feeling. I have my tickets booked for the home series against the Rangers and can’t wait to hopefully see you on the Safeco Mound.
And Craig is right – they are showing a couple of games live but they do mix up the teams. On Thursday they showed the Mariners and Angels (the 1-0 win) which is nice!
The specs or no specs – go with whatever is comfortable. If the specs are causing some minor problems (the fogging etc), maybe the lasik is worth it. Most importantly, don’t worry about how it looks!
I must say the glasses are you. Every good pitcher has a trademark, you are a great pitcher, you must have a trademark. Eckersley had the leg kick, Fingers had the mustachio, JJ Putz had Thunderstruck, you have glasses.
I sure hope you get better soon, what’s your rehab like? how intense is it?
Ryan, you really shouldn’t be basing your decision to get Lasik surgery on whether or not you think your glasses look lame! (Remember this quote from my daughter in that newspaper article? “I just like him as a pitcher and his glasses are cool, too,” ) You should just worry about if they are a distraction to you.
Anyway, it was great to see you back in the dugout last night during the opening game against the Giants. That was pretty special, seeing Randy Johnson pitch in Seattle for probably the last time. Good luck in your start in Tacoma this evening!
Here’s a question for you… what do you guys think of the fans doing the wave during the game? Have you ever been out there on the mound during one? Does it distract you? Do you tune it out? Do you like the energy it creates in the stadium? I’ve always wondered what the players think about it… it would be great to get your perspective.
Hey Ryan,
Why don’t you get the LASIK but then wear uncorrected glasses. That way, you can still be cool but if they get to be too much, just take them off. I can see how everybody sees them as your trademark (no pun intended) but if YOU think you would do better without them, have it done.
Specs!
G’day Ryan! Been sorta thinking of you cuz I am just finishing an awesome book all about Australia by Bill Bryson called “In a Sunburned Country.”
First of all, congrats on a successful outing in Tacoma tonight. I don’t know your take on it but I would say only allowing 2 hits over four innings is pretty good! Can’t wait to see you back with the M’s. You have one more game with the Rainiers? Might have to catch that if it is at home…maybe see Andra again
Anyways, as for your specs question…my selfish answer is go with the specs!! I have always loved your Oakleys…gives you character and you’d not say you look dumb-cuz you don’t. Not everyone can sport Oakleys successfully but you can and do. HOWEVER, as a glasses wearer myself that also has a tough time with contacts, I have been thinking of and wanting to get LASIK for a couple years now. I am obviously not as serious into sports as you but as an active, sports person, not having to wear glasses would be a dream. The appeal of LASIKS is great…but don’t think your glasses aren’t appealing looks-wise!
I am so happy you are almost done with rehab. I can’t imagine how crazy you must have been getting, watching teammates go to the mound from the sidelines. We have sure gotten a chance to look at some rookies with all the injuries and whatnot though.
Obviously the players on the DL (and players not playing that night) are at the stadium during the game to cheer each other on and learn by watching but do any of you guys have any dugout rituals to “keep yourselves busy” so-to-speak? I’m not sure if that quite makes sense…
Also, I was just curious if your after-game routine is the same after Rainiers games as it is after Mariners games whatever that may be. For example, if you usually freshen up and go to the Kangaroo and Kiwi after M’s games is it the same scenario after Tacoma games? Or are Rainiers games a different feel, location, perhaps different teammates so different routine? Which also makes me wonder…do you hang out with a lot or any teammates after games or on off days?
Sorry for the long comment…Good luck next outing! See you at SAFECO soon!
I don’t know…the specs are kind of dorky, but in a very endearing way. But hey, i’m a fan of glasses. It is kind of your trademark, but don’t let that hold you back from making a change you think will be for the better. Lasik could do wonders for you. I suppose my being indecisive isn’t helping you much! Haha.
I think it was on a broadcast of a Mariners game (or perhaps something i read on the site?) that said that even after you are back on the roster, you may not be starting right away. However, that was a while ago, before you were with Tacoma and did extended spring training. So is that still going to be the case, or no?
Good luck in rehab, can’t wait to see you back on the mound at Safeco!!
Sounds like you had a nice 45 (or so) pitch outing in Tacoma, two hits, one run, is that right? One step closer.
Another vote for the glasses – they let you stand out, trademark, etc. It wouldn’t be the same without them!
On the other hand, though, I can totally see about the fogging up thing, so really it all comes down to what you feel is best, doesn’t it?
Hi Ryan, Definantly keep the specs dude.. got a quick question for you.. Do you still keep in contact with ex mariner aussies who came threw our system like Thorne and Auty??? what happened to those 2? i remember Auty hit close to .400 and the enxt minute i saw him released on the Baseball America Transactions and i havent seen him on a roster since and Thorne signed for alot of money threw mid 90’s and i neevr heard a thing about him since.. any news on those 2? As u can see Ryan i am a huge fan of Australians coming threw the M’s farm system i watched you threw the ranks and Blackley. You guys are so nice natured and i am so happy to watch your success..
Spec definitely. I am totally with you on the Ranger games. They’re miserable, even for the fans, but we love to watch you anyway. I don’t mind braving the Texas heat if it means seeing the m’s play. You’re the only team that I’ll sit through the heat for. See you in late July.
Good to see are pitching again. Hoping to see you back up soon when the arm is stretched. When you are back in the bigs, i will find a weekend game when you are pitching at the Safe, and take the family down. So tell the Mariners management you will be responsible for 5 extra ticket sales due to your appeal to ex-pat Aussies, and that you should get a Griffey like incentive for ticket sales. Been to two games so far and try to target 6 or so a year.
As to the glasses. Whatever makes you feel comfortable. My wife wore them until about your age, and then perserved with the contacts (took here months and a lot of swearing). Now she generally wears contacts, with the odd day once or twice a month where she wears glasses. She looks hot either way, which I can’t say about you – lol. So your choice.
I personally had Lasik and it was the best thing that I have ever done. If I were you, I would definetley get Lasik. Like another person previously stated you could still wear uncorrective glasses if you decided that you do not feel comfortable without them while pitching.
My sister and her boyfriend both have had lasik done, and they say it’s wonderful. Although a lot of people here seem to like the look of your glasses, I wear them myself and I know how inconvenient they can be a lot of the time, particularly if you’re active. There are two reasons I haven’t gone with lasik: 1) your eye configuration can keep changing up until about 40, so if you get lasik done before then, you may still need glasses or another lasik after a few years; and 2) there’s a tiny minority of lasik patients who complain of strange reflections and haloes in their vision after the surgery, particularly at night or in low light. I am an amateur astronomer so the risk of not being able to stargaze again is enough to put me off. Like any surgery, lasik has its risks, but it does sound a lot more convenient than glasses or contacts.
It’d be great to catch another one of your Tacoma starts, but they’re not on the Rainiers’ website. Hopefully you’ll have one at home. You know some of those guys already; does it feel like homecoming when you’re at Cheney? It’s a friendlier stadium but it’s a BIG step down from the Safe because of its age.
Good luck with the rehab, and you know you have a lot of fans pulling for you.
No Specs. I wore glasses for years in sports and once I got rid of them I played a lot better. Now I wonder how good I would have been if I hadnt had them at all. NO SPECS! BE FREE! Foggy glasses are the worst thing when your playing any sport.
Also, Are you guys supposed to not talk to the fans that come up to the bullpen during the games? Id love to get a ball signed by Mr. RRS!
Ryano how are ya mate?
Sounds like all is well for ya!!
Hey I’m off to Gods country in Aug. Yes mate not Perth but the big town of Newcastle!!
Drop me an email events@baseballwa.asn.au
Thanks Tonks..
Stick with the specs! If you like hockey and are a bespectacled athlete, you gotta love the movie Slapshot with the glasses-wearing, brawling Hansen brothers. They were played by two real brothers (Jeff and Steve Carlson) and Dave Hansen who played for the Hartford Whalers in the 1970’s. Steve Carlson actually wore those heavy rimmed specs on-ice and was a real tough guy, which made him quite a character back in those days.
[...] on whether or not Ryan Rowland-Smith should keep the glasses or go for lasik, you can tell him here. I’m pro-glasses, mainly because I know I’ll need some soon, and I am not putting [...]
RRS,
As a fellow glasses wearer who played sports I have to say that fog, sweat or dirt on the glasses sucks. Anything that distracts you from pitching will hurt your game. I haven’t done LASIK myself (my job prohibits me from doing so) so I can’t tell you that you should do it. I wear contacts and have off and on since I was 14. The key with contacts is to find a brand that fits and that feels good. I use Acuvue Advanced, but there are others out there. I’d reccommend LASIK if a doctor recomends it and you can’t wear contacts and only choose glasses as a last resort.
G’day Ryan,
cheers for the reply mate. Specs more comfortable sweat can be wiped off. and if contacts fall out will be tought to find on the field so specs mate. what is it like playing for the Rainers is it like a reserve grade where no one turns up or totally different?
Scotty
I vote for whatever makes you comfortable. I don’t wear glasses, but when I do wear sunglasses I find them crazy annoying. I love the look of the specs. To me, it might add to the intimidation factor. But if Lasik helps you focus on pitching and not on your glasses you should definitely do it. Hope your rehab is still going well. I can’t wait to see you back in Seattle! We need you out there!!
P.S. – Congrats on the win with the Rainiers tonight! The box score makes it seem like you pitched a great game!
Hey Ryan! Great job tonight in Tacoma. As for the specs issue, I noticed tonight that you seem to have a routine that includes them so I wonder if not having them will throw you off. I personally think go without but with your routine I think keep them. I know not much help but something to think about. Can wait to see you in Seattle.
Vicki
Keep the specs! They are your trademark! Well you should probably do what feels most comfortable but I’m gunna have to vote specs. Ok quick question, what are some solid Australian movies? The only one I’ve seen is Mad Max, so I was wondering if you could suggest any others. I look forward to seeing you healthy and pitching!
hi ryan,
i don’t know what lasiks are?!!
defo trademark, but you have to be comfortable and feel 100% in what you are wearing…and at the end of the day mate the main thing is to make sure you can see the bloody batter in front of you…you wanna leave nothin on the hill…
your “oakley” specs are smashing
are you injuried at the moment?
cheers d-wong
From Shannon Drayer’s blog:
“Against Nashville tonight Ryan threw 5 innings surrendering just 3 hits, no runs, walked 1 and struck out 3. He got up to his pitch count throwing 81 pitches, 54 for strikes.”
Keep up the good work.
Dash –
I pitch for my softball team and used to wear glasses.
In a tournament, it rained on the championship game and I couldn’t pitch because my glasses kept getting blurry and fogging up.
I had lasik done and I feel safer in marginal weather because I can see the ball coming off the bat clearly.
Lasik surgery has come a long way. Mine was a 100% success. No stars no side effects. Make sure you see a good doctor.
E mail me if you’d like info on my experience.
George
Keep the glasses…….. When do the Mariners release the #18 jerseys? Rock on Mate
Nice start yesterday. I sat back in the crowd and saw a great game. See you soon in the bigs.
Ryan–I’m glad you are back. Your talent has been missed up here. I love the specs. I think they are cool and make you stand out. It all comes down to comfort and trust. You are the one who will live with the decision. Best of luck! Welcome back. And, like Daniel said, when are they going to have your jerseys?
Hey Ryan, YOU ARE BACK. AWESOME! Can’t wait to watch you pitch in Majors again, where you belong. You sure are a hard worker. You never give up. It’s a great game to watch when your on the mound anytime!
Hey Ryan,
When I played little league, we had this guy on our team that wore goggles whenever he pitched because he had really bad vision. They became somewhat of his trademark and soon he was just known around the league as “The Goggle Guy”. Anyways, I’m sure there is one sportswriter out there who could come up with a better nickname, but those glasses are your trademark man! But hey, I’m not the one out there pitching. I play high school baseball, but I think the pros move slightly faster (only slightly). Go with whatever you feel better pitching in, but the specs look awesome!
I heard you’re coming back June 11th against Baltimore, is that true? If so, best of luck to you and I can’t wait to see you back in the rotation.
Ryan is now on Twitter as hyphen18!!!!!!!
check it out
Well, here’s my two cents for you, Ryan.
I agree the glasses are a trademark for you, however I would stick with the contacts when you play. I’ve been wearing contacts for 20 years, and I’m very athletic. I have fogged up glasses in hot yoga and it’s just no good!
Also, I could never recommend Lasik to anyone. Once you alter the surface of your eyes as in lasik, if you should develop cataracts as you age, they can’t be repaired (to my knowledge). Hope this helps in your decision making process!
Specs or no Specs? That is the question…
Hmmm, personally, I like the glasses (specs). This may sound silly, but I wear glasses myself, and I like the choice of two looks..(maybe it is a girl thing, we like variety). I have contacts and don’t wear them too long because my eyes are so sensitive these days and are red for days afterwards… so I agree about not wearing contacts for games. Functionality is important, especially in your profession. I would be nervous about getting Lasik, however, I haven’t met anyone who didn’t like it… I guess my advice would be to weigh the pros and cons… if wearing the specs is more of a hassle than helpful when pitching, go with Lasik… if it doesn’t hurt your pitching ability and it’s more of a cosmetic decision, dump the idea… you look great in the specs as is.
I have a question though:
What’s the big deal about you having a hyphen in your name? It doesn’t seem so outrageous or out of the norm to me?
AND one more question (and I hope no one has asked this, because I haven’t read all the comments on your blog..sorry):
Are you the first Australian to play US baseball? When I found out you are Australian, that seemed different and stuck out to me… (not in a bad way). I haven’t heard or come across an Aussie in US pro baseball before.. kind of cool…
(and that was funny about the “XXXX” can’t spell beer joke)..
It was very nice meeting you, er, well, blogging you..
-Chandra
I switched from specs to contacts when I was playing fastpitch- thankfully contacts work well for me. I remember how awful specs were, especially in rain. But, as much as I (still) want Lasik, I’ve had a few friends get the surgery and it didn’t work! They still need specs!!! So, in my case, I’m not willing to risk lasik at this point in my life. Plus, what if your vision gets worse from a surgery? No good! Plus, the specs are a good fit for you.
Keep ‘em, if you can tolerate ‘em!
And welcome back! I live in England where it’s hard to catch Rainiers games via internet radio. Glad I can put my MLBtv subscription to good use and see you in an M’s jersey.
Ryan,
I commented in #39 above.
I had my lasik surgery done by Dr. Geggel at Virginia Mason in Downtown Seattle.
I understand he gets his clients by word of mouth.
Heres the link:
https://www.virginiamason.org/home/body.cfm?xyzpdqabc=0&id=1175&action=detail&ref=169
Glasses interfered with my lifestyle and lasik was a good option for me.
George
I’m 99% Hyphen+Specs
The 1% is if it affects your pitching….then go Lasiks.
They do make anti-fog sprays that you can spray once a day on glas so it wont fog up.
A little trick if ya dont want glasses to fog….
Take some shaving cream in a cloth and rub it on the inside of your glasses, then wipe off with a dry clean cloth. Then the glass wont fog up for a while (moisture in the air will determine how long it lasts.
I use to do that to the inside of my windshield in my car when the defroster was broke….
You don’t need specs to define you. The greats were remembered for the way they mowed down hitters, not their silly trademarks. If YOU don’t like the specs and they’re getting in your way, then that should be more than enough for you to make your decision. Any fan you lose because you stop wearing glasses isn’t a fan worth having.
Years ago the Yankees had a fastballing reliever named Ryne Duren. His glasses were his trademark, and he was effectively wild. Those glasses created doubt in the hitters’ minds, so they worked for him. Whatever works.
Ryne Duren:

Dude, stick with the specs. Makes you look cool and under control. Or, think of Charlie Sheen in Major League!
Chandra – from June 2nd. There have been several Aussie players in the bigs – probably our most successful was Dave Nilsson. Here is his wiki page
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Nilsson
Also in the Mariners recently was Chris Snelling, who grew up in Aus and was a good talent, but appears injuries limited his success. There are quite a few others, but I am sure Ryan knows most of them and can give the numbers.
Yes! Keep the specs! Thats what makes you Ryan!
And I think I saw you play when you were on the 66ers in San Bernardino. Thats so great you made it into the big leagues! I think you know my cousin too! Small world
Great to read about you. I watch the Mariners games all the time from Portland. Well good luck this season! See you at one of your games soon!
Mr Hyphen!!!
hope things are going well for you in Tacoma!!!
i miss you!
Congratulations on your excellent performance tonight in Sacramento. One poor pitch for that homer and your own error.-that’s it!
You showed them that you can be awesome, have command, get out of jams and pitch with gusto.
Really looking forward to seeing you where you belong at last.
Hi Ryan…Love the specs…Their sexy in a dorky way, that only you could pull off…They look like their a pain out on the mound….Would love to see your sexy eyes more…Welcome Back, I hope you can go the rest of the season injury free….Good Day Mate….
Get the wavefront! Some people that have the surgery report 20/10 vision.
Glasses always affect depth perception too so there is no way you can’t pitch better without glasses.
Anyone that says its a custom look to wear glasses never saw Gagne. Its hard to be original so stick to results. That can be your signature.
Hey Ryan,
when are you getting the call up or is it another Triple A game?
I am waiting to go to my first mariners game this year but waiting for an aussie to be pitching otherwise I’ll take the missus down to tacoma and watch you pitch there. Colorado Rockies were tough so maybe its a blessing that the coach didnt give you the start however you must be getting itchy to start. Anyways mate, keep positive and keep pluggin’ away and you’ll be in the rotation in no time. Not sure whether youre into rugby league but being a Novacastrian you must be hurtin’ after Game One of the State of origin!!
best of luck for the next game
catchya
Steve
RYAN,
LET’S GET OVER THE SPECS THING!
YOU DON’T NEED SPECS:
THE FRONT OFFICE AND MANAGEMENT ARE THE ONES WHO NEED SPECS-
AND NOT ROSE COLOURED ONES.
THEY CANT SEE THE FORREST FOR THE TREES.
LOOK AND SEE – BRING YOU UP!
YOU HAVE THE GOODS. ITS ON PAPER.READ IT!
EVEN THE PRESS NEED TO CLEAR THE FOG OFF THEIR GLASSES!
WE ARE WITH YOU ALL THE WAY. AND IT WILL BE ALL THE WAY!
Lasik rocks Ryan..it could be the best thing you ever do….
I’ve been putting off my anual trip to Seattle…can’t wait to see ya back in the rotaion buddy…
Good Luck
Hey Ryan,
and check your blog once a while and I like that you’re that close to the fans.
Nice question btw. I think those glasses look good. I turn 30 in a couple of days and got my first glasses now for driving. When I wear my M’s cap plus the glasses I think: looks kinda like RRS, nice!
So stay with the glasses!
But best would be you do whatever suits you best. If you get better on the mound, do that laser stuff.
Hope you’re back in the rotation soon!
Greetings from Cologne, Germany
Sups
Stick with the specs, if they’re more comfortable. If they’re fogging up on you, might try wiping them down with an anti-fog cloth—try a ski store.
Good job rocking the Yankees on Friday, RRS. It’s a shame offense couldn’t carry you to a win. Don’t worry though, the way you’re pitching there will be plenty of chances for wins down the line.
I say “Yay” for the specs- they are VERY sexy! Also wanted to let you know that your changeup is looking very good, and I love how you pitch such a nicely paced game. Can’t wait ’til your next start!
Love the Specs! PS have you seen BMX Bandits with Nicole Kidman? Good movie!
Ryan:
The specs are hot, as are you. The only game I could attend this season it was about 104 degrees and you were smokin’ against Halladay and the Jays. Can’t wait for Opening Day!
