In my opinion, Richard Collier is a coward and a bully who got what he deserved. The guy he punched out was fully 200 pounds lighter than he was. He knocked that poor guy unconscious. He KNEW when he hit him that he (Hartsfield) was NO COMPETITION. It was tantamount to hitting a woman. That, to me, is about as low as it gets. Where is all this sympathy for Collier coming from? I don't care where Hartsfield came from, he is entitled to the same rights as EVERYONE else and the police violated his rights by not arresting Collier for assaulting him. Had Collier knocked out some white boy, you better believe the police would have been at his door THAT NIGHT with the handcuffs, the lawyers would have been there the next day with a subpeona and the victim would be living high on the hog on his income RIGHT NOW. God DOESN'T like ugly. That fool (Collier) was given SEVERAL gifts and, based upon the defense attorney's cross, he squandered them running around acting like a bully and fool. Had the police and the district attorney performed their duties non-discriminatorily the FIRST time around when that fool Collier assaulted Hartsfield, then Collier would STILL be walking, playing and he would STILL have 2 legs. I think it is reprehensible that that poor man had to take matters into his own hands and I think it is even MORE pitiful that this country didn't even notice someone was knocked completely unconscious in a PUBLIC PLACE AND THE POLICE NEVER BOTHERED TO INVESTIGATE AND NO ONE SEEMS TO BE BOTHERED BY THE FACT. Y'all should be scared because YOU could be next. God forbid some 6'7" 3301 lbs. bully knocks you out, goes home, goes to sleep without impugn. What will you do? Does the punishment fit the crime? You're kidding yourself if you think it does. You're an idiot if you think it does. This guy went up to the back of a man's car and shot him 14 times. 14 times! If that gains him respect and keeps everyone in his neighborhood in check then it's just sad. You know what everyone else calls a man that shoots someone in the back? A coward. And that's what I call everyone who thinks that he deserves respect for pulling that trigger...14 times. I lost everything in the hurricane and it puts a whole new twist on life. You see people's true colors and what life is all about when it you have to kick into survival mode. And you know what? None of this matters. Race doesn't matter. Gender doesn't matter. Social class doesn't matter. Experience doesn't matter. And whether or not you settled a score with someone you barely know doesn't matter. It all comes down to kindness, compassion, and providing for the general welfare of all people. When you're standing in line waiting to get food, water, and ice to stay alive no one cares if you earned your respect in the neighborhood. I hope that one day the "man" that decided to do this to another human being is in a situation where the kindness and compassion of another human being is the ONLY thing that will save him. And I hope he is affected by it. I hope that he will see that being a decent human being is above everything else and you can take a hit or a bad word and it can roll off your back and life can go on. And I hope he comes across someone that needs the same from him and they see his compassion and they decide to change their life and their choices. That's the only way it will change. I'm positive that Rich has been humbled and the guy that decided to shoot him got his ridiculous message across. He will be judged one day and it isn't up to me or anyone else to do it. However, I hope he learns this before he's staring down the barrel of a gun belonging to a man that thinks he disrespected him. I hope he realizes what life is really about before it's too late. And I sincerely hope that it doesn't take losing everything he has and everything around him for this guy to realize that if all you have is your respect then you have nothing. I just can't see anything justifying killing someone. I think that's a big part of the problem when it comes to all the unnecessary violence in this country. I know that all some people have is the respect they've earned but this doesn't make it better. Don't you want better for the kids around there than what you had? And for your kids? This type of stuff just makes it worse. All the people that think they're better and don't think twice to disrespect and look down on the people that live in these types of neighborhoods just got one more reason to keep thinking it. I'm not saying the guy is perfect and that he didn't do anything wrong but I know that this was not the answer. As far as the other guy not getting shot... who says that he just wasn't lucky? He got out of that truck and I'm glad bc he didn't know what was going on but that doesn't mean that he wasn't supposed to get shot too. These men are sons, grandsons, future husbands, etc. and there are people that are planning their lives with them and depending on them that this man doesn't even know about. That's why there are other ways to handle things like this. This dude just pulled the trigger and kept holding down an entire class of people that are struggling to stay above water anyways. These decisions don't just affect the 2 people involved and that's what so sad about it. People think that they have to go shoot someone and make it "right" but they don't realize that it will affect them, their family, their kids (or future kids), and everyone else in a situation like they're in that are trying to make it. What if the guy who shot him has a family or kids that need him? What if he does get caught and goes to jail? He sure wasn't thinking about them when he made this decision.
