Hey there Ryan,

I just wanted to welcome you the city of Seattle! I really hope you are taking a liking to it as much as the city is to you. I enjoyed watching from a far last night at the Cleveland game, but it would've been great for you to be on that mound too. Soon enough you'll be our starter! I also wanted to ask if you had a chance to do some surfing in the PNW. I'm sure the waves aren't as spectacular as the ones back home, but it is pretty cool!

hey ryan, first of all congrates mate on your starts this year i hope they continue for along time to come. you have come a very long way since those school baseball/softball teams we played together on and it is well deserved.
mate your old club toronto is doing well this year they are up there on the ladder and two young brothers have just got signed for the BoSox. mate there is a fair bit of talk round the grounds about how well you are doing for seattle and all i can say you are doing yourself proud mate and are an inspiration every young aussie baseballer who wants to do the hard yards and make the big time.
cheers and good luck

Hey Ryan, Another fine start second time around. I would be curious to know what teams you dreamed of playing for growing up (both AL and NL), and which team would you most like to be traded to (god forbid the M's do that). I look forward to getting some insight to the life of an MLB player, especially one of our natives. I can see why you would not expect much interest from your home town, I can't figure out why we don't embrace this sport in Australia, it sure as heck beats cricket for entertainment. Best of luck to you.

I agree with a couple of the bloggers, we in Oz don't get nearly enough coverage of MLB especially our boys over there, so you feel free to ramble on about anything to do with your outings, playing in the Bigs, living in the U.S. anything. Looking forward to your next blog. I think the M's realise they have a valuable pitcher when you can start and come out of the pen. Look forward to your next outing.

You're one of my favorite Ms players, I'm so glad to find you actually have a blog; brilliant! I had the fortune to visit Australia during the New Year's, and I have to say, Sydney knows how to throw a party! Wow! It was one of the most impressive massive gatherings I've ever been to - also hot as hell. I'm a native Northwesterner, so I don't do well with anything much over 30-C - doesn't seem to stop me from coming to the Safe, though. See you next homestand, looking forward to the BoSox game, for sure!
And yes, the thing with Jamie was easily the weirdest thing I've seen in baseball, maybe ever. Keep writing when you can; I agree with whomever above said it was good to see the player's perspective unedited by press. Stellar. :)

Hey Ryan,

You looked good on Sunday! You are really showing some good stuff.

That was pretty amazing about Burke coming in to pitch. I remember I told my friends "wouldn't it be cool if he got the win?" But that just set the jinx in motion. (Maybe I should use my powers for good instead of evil :))

Look forward to many more starts and even relief, it's just fun to watch you pitch. Keep up the great work!!

I approve of the new pic.

I was at that game, stayed all 15, and SO STRANGE. Going into the 9th after less than two hours, then finally ending after more than 4. Loved the massive cheer after Burke got his first strike, too ;D

I was really hoping that someone would get a run in the bottom of the 5th so you could come in and get out one hitter in the 6th and get the win, but clearly, there was no run... oh well. Still a really good game! Holding the Tigers to 2 runs in a game that had a 14th inning stretch? Good job to you and all of the bullpen!

Hi Ryan,
Just wanted to say you pitched really well on Sunday, was a good game to attend. Starting fits you well, however, I have to admit I am going to miss watching you warm-up in the bullpen. That was one of my favorite parts about going to the game.

RRS, you would be a great guest for FSN's "In My Own Words", hopefully we will see you on that show someday.

It is great to see the off-field side of someone. There is so much negativity on the blogs, people forget you guys are real life human beings.

Have you had much time to explore the Pacific Northwest? Of course you don't get too many off days, but have you done much sightseeing after the season? What are your favorite places in Seattle or Washington State? The All Star break would be a great chance for you to explore the area.

Hey, gotta give props to Burke for getting a swinging strike from Pudge Rodriguez! Its not every pitcher in the bigs that can do that. Also, its pretty awesome you're doing this, makes me an even bigger fan of our new crafty lefty.

Ryan, please do ramble about your outings. It is interesting to hear the perspective of a player without comments being shortened and edited by journalists and editors.

If you don't want to go over baseball too much, tell us some of your stories from Australia. I lived near Cairns for about 4 months and if I know anything about Aussies, is that they have some good tales to tell.

It's been great to see you start - keep up the good work.

Hey Ryan
dont feel you cant ramble about your outings! please do!!! we dont get anywhere near enough news about Aussie MLB players down here in Oz, as i'm sure you'd know, so we'd think it would be awesome to hear as much as possible about how you are going.
other ideas i would suggest would be talking about how things are different in the US leagues than here in Australia, or what it is like to live a day as a major leaguer. it would also be cool to find out what (if any) contact you have with other Aussies playing pro ball over there

anyways, I agree with some of the above comments above, i reckon the M's should give you a chance as a starter for the rest of the year, theyve got nothing to lose, and youve proven yourself this year, so i reckon they should reward you and give you a real chance to step up. what are your thoughts?

cheers
Nathan

G'day mate!
Was lucky enough to see your second start with great seats (2 rows from the dugout) to boot!Again, was not disappointed. 1 run in five innings is nothing to sneeze at! You're proving to be a Good Bloke! I must say, I didn't believe it at first, when I saw Burke on the pitcher's mound but he did good. Of course, a second "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" stretch was unusual too.
If you ramble, it will be read!! I really enjoy reading about your outings and thoughts straight from the source.
Good luck in Oakland and Kansas City
and I've once again succeeded in rambling...

Great start this last time around, really gutsy performance working out of those jams in the first two innings. Hopefully next time around they won't have a pitch count at all for you, and you can just go out there and throw without having to worry about a number, not that that's something you really think about out there anyways. Once again, good luck and hope to see you on the mound every fifth day, and maybe never out of the bullpen again!

Hey Ryan,

Big fan here. I'm the obnoxious guy who will come down and yell in the bullpen before people's starts occasionally (generally King Felix.) In fact, I remember you acknowledging me upon yelling "Welcome to the bigs Ryan!" last year in your first call up, where the M's stupidly didn't use you.

Anyway, I was very impressed with your first start...I'm a season ticket holder out in right field and it seemed you got blooped-and-bleedered to death in that 4th inning. I couldn't make it to yesterday's start since I had to embarrass myself playing CF in softball, but I'm going to watch it on MLB.tv tonight since it looks like you gutted out a great performance.

I hope this move to the rotation is permanent. Its clear that you're one of our three best starters. All of us nerds over at www.lookoutlanding.com have picked you as one of our favorites. Speaking of which, you should pull a CJ Wilson and branch out from your blogging here to drop a post or two there. Heh. If you're wondering, that's why I always yell about Jeff Sullivan having a "man-crush" on you...haha...

Well, I've rambled far too long but hopefully you get moved into the rotation, and hopefully you play long enough to still be throwing off a big league mound by the time I make it into sports journalism. I'd love to work with something bigger than a community college newspaper that may get me the opportunity to interview you some time down the line.

I'll stop wasting your blog space now.

Congrats on all your success RRS!

Ryan keep up the good work. Your hook is outstanding! I think you have starter stuff bro. It would be great to see you and Morrow in the rotation this year.... but maybe that could happen after the trading deadline. Sucks you guys are having a rough year (team wise)but the pen is sure getting the job done. Keep it going and pretty soon you will be able to dictate your own pitch count like some other current starters do. Just kidding. Kind of.

Possible topics, what your daily routine is like, after games what do you guys do?

keep blogging you're doing great.

Good work Ryan. I personally think management should consider giving you a spot in the rotation. I felt that way since last year when I saw that killer change up of yours. Here's to hoping you get to start regularly.

Great job, Ryan! Sunday's game is one to remember for sure. Poor Jamie! However, you did really well and I'm looking forward to seeing you out there as a starter for this team.

Hey Ryan!

I live down in Oregon & while I've been disappointed with the Mariners over the past few years, I enjoy watching you pitch (especially when you break off a yacker).

Keep up the good work!

Ryan,

Do you know if you are going back to the bullpen or are you vying for another start with Bedard's shoulder tightness?

The pitching and defense was pretty impressive yesterday. I hope everyone gained more appreciation for Jamie Burke. I've seen a few position players pitch in Tacoma and he was much better than any of them, an 87 mph fast ball that he can actually locate!

Ideas for future blogs: Favorite road city, what you enjoy doing with your time away from the field, best prank in the bullpen or clubhouse.

Good Luck in Oakland and Kansas City!

Ryan,

My wife and I are big fans of you. My wife could not remember your hyphenated name and nicknamed you Smith and Wesson instead. I think its a good nickname. I think you make a good starter and I hope the M's see that too.
Burke looked pretty good except for those curveballs. He made Pudge swing and miss.
A few years back my wife and I visited San Antonio and got to meet Chris Snelling and Travis Blackley. Seems like Aussies are good guys all around.
take care.

Great job!
I'm a big fan of the team and I was excited to watch your first start, I thought you did really good. I was wondering what your thoughts are about starting? would you rather be a starter or reliever? Keep up the good work, and good luck.
