THE TEAM
The Jets were created on June 17, 2005 with the love traditional hockey in mind. A motivated collection of has-beens and never-was…es formed a professionally-mimmicked team rocketing to the rec hockey pinnacle with the former NHL's Winnipeg Jets look and desire.
With the help of title sponsor, Canyon Sportswear, the Jets broke inaugural season records losing only 2 games and earning the respect and admiration of many throughout the Red Deer and Central Alberta hockey world with their fake appearances and escapades.
On July 5, 2006, the team was purchased by NHL goaltender Cam Ward in a blockbuster deal allowing for philanthropic commitment to the Special Olympics in Red Deer on behalf of the players and their new owner.
In their first season of fundraising, the Jets through Cam Ward donated $4,400 to the Red Deer Special Olympics! ($3,200 by Ward – $1,200 from players)
THE CAUSE
The Jets are proud to help out the Special Olympics in Red Deer. As part of the deal, "Wardo" will donate $20.00 from every goal scored each season to the Red Deer Chapter of the Special Olympics. Like the Winnipeg Jets did many years ago with their "Goals for Kids" program, our Jets will also wear special patches on our uniform chests to help promote the per goal donations from Wardo.
The Jets are a not-for-profit team.
