Back in the 1930's, folks in Weatherford, Texas were justly proud of “homemade” sauces they created in small batches on their kitchen stoves. They didn't like “heavy” sauces that just plain smothered the taste of their big steaks, but ones that enhanced the flavors. Every recipe was different, but Randy's grandfather was searching for his own. And, after several years of trying many blends, Grandpa Jones hit on what we know today as RANDY JONES ORIGINAL BASEBALL BARBEQUE SAUCE.
And, just as Grandpa made it, our sauce today is prepared in small batches, cooked ever so slowly with only the finest ingredients. And folks love it on beef, chicken, pork and even seafood.
Some folks say our Original has that “just right” blend of sweetness with a little tang, while the new Spicy brings a bit heat from roasted jalapenos. And, they find more and more ways to use RANDY JONES ORIGINAL BASEBALL BARBEQUE SAUCE in soups, stews, dips, marinades — as a condiment, flavoring ingredient or for basting and glazing.
Why “Baseball Barbeque?” Grandpa Jones loved the taste of hot dogs at the small ballpark in nearby Fort Worth, and he wanted to have that enjoyment at home anytime. Well, as a boy Randy remembered how Grandpa always talked about that “ballpark taste,” and as luck would have it, Randy became a famous major league baseball player. When the opportunity arose to open his own barbeque food service at the San Diego Padres' baseball park in 1992, he wanted to share his Grandpa's sauce with all the fans. With his father's help, Randy was able to once again create that long-ago familiar barbeque flavor from Grandpa's own kitchen.
And, today you can enjoy in your home the nostalgic taste and aroma of that little ballpark 'way back in Texas.
