What's more, the home life of many of our children does little to combat the increasing difficulties they face in everyday life. Factors such as inconsistent academic support, an unstable home environment, and lack of moral training and community support offer these children little opportunity to succeed. The Darrell Green Youth Life Foundation (DGYLF) believes that for children to grow into successful adults, they need to have security and development in four areas: values education home community The DGYLF helps to shape the lives of children whose family lives and circumstances have all too often limited their opportunities to realize their potential. The Foundation is committed to nurturing the child, strengthening the family, and rebuilding the community. The DGYLF embraces the idea that early support for children helps to ensure their successful future. To open the doors of opportunity for every girl and boy, we must all work together for their common good to guarantee their chance to lead educated and value-centered lives. Children deserve the support of caring adults who can guide them in achieving an education, realizing their goals, and becoming contributing citizens in their communities. To promulgate these ideals, the Foundation operates the Youth Life Learning Centers. Through attending Youth Life Learning Centers (comprehensive after-school and full summer program services), these children are able to see for themselves just how bright their future can be. Founder Darrell Green has made a commitment to supporting and advocating for America's children. His experience in overcoming challenges in his own childhood has given him a deeply rooted appreciation for the many obstacles they face. With continued success in giving these children the academic and values-based enrichment they need, the DGYLF will grow to serve 11 communities in the Washington metropolitan area by 2009, train new community leaders through its National Training Institute, and build an endowment for long-term stability. Its successful model will be shared with communities across the nation contributing to the growth of America's children.

Description The first Tony Boselli Youth Life Learning Center program at Simonds-Johnson Community Center and Playground at 3730 Moncrief Rd., Jacksonville, Florida began in early 2007 as a community partnership with the Boselli Foundation, the city, private businesses and the faith based community. The focus of the TBYLLC is to provide the community with a comprehensive, holistic, after-school learning environment that includes academic enrichment and remedial education in the areas of reading/language arts and mathematics, supplemental services, mentoring, and character development. The Tony Boselli Youth Life Learning Center was launched with the assistance of the Youth Life Learning Foundation of Tennessee, an affiliate of the Darrell Green Youth Life Foundation of Washington, D.C. Former Washington Redskins, Darrell Green, opened the first Youth Life Learning Center in 1993 in Washington, D.C. and then opened in Nashville Tennessee through the Youth Life Learning Foundation of Tennessee. There are now five sites in Nashville two sites in West Tennessee - (Memphis and Covington, TN). Our programs operate from 3:00p.m.-6:00p.m., Monday through Friday throughout the school year, while providing an enhanced half-day program in the summer months. Children enroll in the program between kindergarten and grade five and continue to receive guidance until graduating from high school. Parents commit to having their children attend the TBYLLC 5 days a week. Consistently, the students are challenged to pursue excellence academically, morally, physically, and socially by strong role models. The TBYLLC provides an eye-opening opportunity for disadvantaged and underprivileged children by offering comprehensive after-school and summer programs to help them achieve success in school. Students receive interactive assistance and tutoring in core academic areas, including reading and math. The TBYLLC is equipped with a computer lab and a library with over 1,500 books. In addition, children are exposed to principles related to character and moral development and are given the kind of guidance and encouragement needed to grow into successful and productive young adults. While many programs cease to serve students beyond elementary school, the TBYLLC is committed and poised to serve underprivileged students until high school graduation. Our program has been developed, supported and staffed by educational professionals. The TBYLLC staff works in concert with the school and parents to map out a unique plan for each child. The TBYLLC staff focuses on assessing, measuring and tracking the academic progress of each student. The TBYLLC is supported through local churches, businesses, the City of Jacksonville and individuals in the community. The Simonds-Johnson Community Center building, where the TBYLLC is operated from, was completely renovated by donations from Builders Care, Home Depot, ICI Homes, and Volunteer Jacksonville. The operation and training of the YLLC curriculum was donated by theYouth Life Learning Foundation of Tennessee in partnership with the Boselli Foundation.

Description VISION Nurture the Child, Strengthen the Family, Rebuild the Community MISSION Youth Life Learning Centers exist to benefit the lives of children and families living in low-income environments through daily after school academic programs, teen leadership clubs, and parental guidance programs. HISTORY The Youth Life Foundation of the Triangle (YLFT) began as an Outreach Program of Kings Park International Church in Durham, North Carolina in 1996. The program started as a community based summer reading program located in the predominately African-American Cornwallis Road public housing community. One year later, the program formed a partnership with Durham Housing Authority to develop a year round academic program. YLFT established learning centers and grew in enrollment when the after-school academic & mentoring program began assisting participants to achieve academic success beyond the levels historically achieved by community residents. In preparation for replicating these programs across the Triangle area, YLFT restructured with a Board of Directors comprised of representatives across local church leaders, business leaders, legal representatives and educators. In 2002, the organization incorporated as a 501 (C) 3 non-profit Youth Life Foundation of the Triangle, and as the first affiliate of the national Youth Life Foundation, founded by former Washington Redskins Defensive Back, Darrell Green.
