In one of the most successful jumps from high school to the NBA, Amaré Stoudemire stunned many by capturing the 2002-03 NBA Rookie of the Year award at just 20 years old, and he's just gone up from there. The 6-10, 245-pound power forward, who has his nickname "STAT" (Standing Tall and Talented) tattooed on his right arm, is an enormous physical talent, who is often compared to a young Shawn Kemp, Karl Malone or Moses Malone. Stoudemire's brute force and amazing quickness for someone his size makes him extremely difficult to defend in the low post and a shot-blocking threat on the defensive end. Even Stoudemire's childhood idol growing up, Lakers center Shaquille O'Neal, was awestruck with the kid's immense potential, "I've seen the future of the NBA and his name is Amaré Stoudemire."

Description June 23-26, 2008 The Amaré Stoudemire Basketball Camp will be held at Desert Ridge High School and Junior High featuring seven full size air-conditioned basketball courts. The camp consists of lectures, basketball drill stations, player evaluations, games, Amaré's basketball contests, and the Amaré Stoudemire Skills Test. The camps are great fundamentals training is excellent preparation for campers looking to take their game to the next level. To enhance the positive learning experience every camper will receive individualized instruction with approximately a seven to one camper to coach ratio. Amaré 'STAT' Stoudemire Basketball Camp seeks to develop a positive all around athlete on and off the court, giving campers an opportunity to fully realize their potential in an enriching, fun, and safe environment, an environment that encourages teamwork, gamesmanship, self-confidence, respect, and dedication to the game. Amaré Stoudemire Basketball Camp is committed to the development of fundamental skills and technique enhancement. Campers learn ball handling, rebounding, passing, court spacing, post moves, defensive skills, and team offense. Amaré Stoudemire Basketball Camp’s success will spring from Amaré’s strong dedication to the campers, providing them with a template they can use to create their own winning formulas on and off the court.

Description All of Amaré’s Community Initiatives stem from his non-profit organization The Amaré Stoudemire Foundation, “Each 1, Teach 1.” The purpose of Amaré Stoudemire Foundation, which was established by Amaré in 2005, is to provide philanthropic support to nonprofit organizations that provide community-based supported services that address the immediate need of at-risk women and children, at-risk urban, and minority youth. Accordingly, beneficiaries will include nonprofit organizations that provide, among other things, educational enrichment (tutoring), mentoring, sports recreation, access to technology, and leadership training programs for women, urban and minority youth.
