CREATING THE FOUNDATION FOR YOUTH TO EXCEL. Alonzo Mourning Charities (AM Charities) is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) public fundraising foundation. AM Charities' mission is to encourage the educational development of our youth by creating programs and youth enrichment centers that promote positive change in low socioeconomic communities. Since 1997, AM Charities has raised more than $6.5 million for various programs that aid in the development of children and their families. In addition to supporting other non-profit organizations, Mourning has focused his attention to stimulating the development of youth enrichment centers. With the help of donors, Mourning opened the first center in 2003 in the historic area of Overtown, in South Florida, known as the Overtown Youth Center. A major component of AM Charities is the Honey Shine Mentoring Program that works to empower young girls to shine as women. The bi-weekly workshops and summer camp that make up the program helps develop and nurture the mind, body, and soul, of young women by providing experiences that enlighten and create balance in their lives. With your participation, Alonzo Mourning Charities can continue to make great strides towards helping to change lives. For more information visit www.amcharities.org. |

Description
OUR MISSION To educate, encourage and assist athletes in their efforts to contribute to community and charitable causes, to increase public awareness of those efforts, and to inspire others to do the same. OUR PURPOSE Educate Athletes, with the proper information and tools, can make a tremendous positive impact on the charitable community. By connecting with professional athletes and teaching them about their philanthropic options, we will equip them with the tools to effectively give back to their community, educate their peers, and inspire many others to support charitable causes. Connect Athletes for Hope will connect athletes, charities, businesses, and individuals to create a movement for positive change. Many athletes have strong philanthropic objectives, yet do not know how to identify and get involved with organizations that best suit those objectives; likewise, many charities do not know how to utilize an athlete's time efficiently to best serve their objectives. AFH will match athletes' philanthropic goals with the needs of charities. Many corporations want to enhance their philanthropic efforts by partnering with the professional athlete community. AFH will help businesses design effective charitable activities and programs that involve athletes. There is also a special bond between athletes and their fans, and AFH will build upon that connection to inspire millions of people to follow the lead of athletes in a philanthropic movement. Recognize We value the hard work and contributions that professional athletes make to the charitable world, and we believe it is important to recognize these efforts. Through this recognition, we hope to celebrate the significant impact athletes can have on the lives of others, show our gratitude for their dedication to making a difference, increase the visibility of the athletes, charities and businesses involved, and inspire others to become part of the philanthropic movement. |

Description
OUR HISTORY The Overtown Youth Center was the vision of local real estate developer Martin Z. Margulies. Through the Margulies Foundation, he built the Overtown Youth Center with the support of Alonzo Mourning in hopes of creating a safe haven for the children in Overtown. Opening in early 2003, the Overtown Youth Center (OYC) is a state-of-the-art facility located in the heart of Miami's inner city. The Center co-locates academic and recreational activities in a safe environment, working with children, families, and schools from grade 2 to graduation. We offer in-school, after-school, weekend, and summer programs that include academic enhancement, physical fitness, health care and nutrition, creative arts, prevention, character-building, and family-oriented activities, including parent orientation. OUR MISSION, VISION, GOALS The mission of the Overtown Youth Center is to inspire and empower youth and families by fostering hope through enrichment services. Our vision is to inspire, empower and enrich the lives of our students. Our goal is to be an integral part of the community by delivering enrichment services that foster hope and promote life-long learning and success for our inner-city youth and citizens. Our goal is to help build a child who is resilient. A resilient child is a child who can live in an environment that is loaded with risk factors, including drugs and crime/violence, a chance at growing into a competent and productive member of society. |

WHAT IS ZO'S FUND FOR LIFE? During the 2001 NBA All-Star Weekend, Mourning launched "Zo's Fund for Life," a campaign seeking to raise a minimum of $2 million in funds for research, education, and testing to fight Focal Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), a degenerative kidney ailment that Mourning was diagnosed with at the start of the season. WHAT WILL THE MONEY BE USED FOR? Money raised will be earmarked for the following purposes: research for a cure, education for doctors and the general public, testing for early detection and creating a fund for those not able to afford the very expensive medication currently used to treat Focal Glumerulosclerosis. HOW IS THE MONEY BEING RAISED? Zo's Fund for Life seeks to raise $2 million from a variety of sources, including NBA players, owners, coaches and corporations. Mourning and his wife, Tracy, had agreed to match a portion of the donations raised dollar-for-dollar. |
