Equipping Coaches To Leave a Legacy of Excellence
The World of a Coach
Coaches play a vital role in shaping and influencing the world we live in. Think about it. Athletes begin playing organized sports as young as age five these days. And that means a coach’s influence starts early.
Coaches come from all walks of life. Some are motivated by a calling to the sport. Others competed as players and thrive on the heat of competition. The thrill of winning is in their blood. Some are born to teach the games they know and love. To many coaches, it is more than a job. It is a way of life.
At the same time, the coaching world is full of challenges. The pressure to succeed, to train, and to produce results creates an intense and often isolating atmosphere. Job turnover, family pressures, even physical health issues come into play. Coaches can begin to feel like they are on an island. All this while trying to balance their commitment to their players.
How do you handle tough times? Where do you turn for guidance and support? Whom do you lean on?
A steadfast and trusted friend is often the answer. Just as players need the support of their coaches and teammates, coaches also need a network of people they can trust.
Nations of Coaches is a place where a coach can go for support, whether it is about the technical aspects of the game or help with a player problem or spiritual guidance.
Working within a framework of Christian principles, Nations of Coaches strives to see coaches, their families, and all those whom they influence powerfully impacted for the glory of God. We equip, encourage, and mentor coaches for their careers and in their relationship with God. We understand that our Creator made us for a purpose. It is our passion to help lead coaches into greater success in their sport and in their faith walk.
History
Nations of Coaches was founded in 2005 by long-time basketball coach, Jim Haney, now Executive Director of the National Association of Basketball Coaches. He dreamed of launching a ministry dedicated to college basketball coaches to help them deal with the everyday pressure to produce and win. That dream grew into a vision to see coaches from every sport at every level equipped to be the successful leaders God had called them to be.
[Former Wright State men's head basketball coach Ed Schilling also serves on the Nations of Coaches' Board of Directors as Executive Vice President.]
