Greene Gettin’ Loose on ‘Dancing with the Stars’
Hi everyone,
It’s me, Maurice Greene. Once known as the world’s fastest man, but now trying on a new title as the world’s most entertaining sports legend. I’m currently a contestant on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” on Monday nights. Although no one knew it about me, dancing is one of my favorite things to do so I was very excited when I was asked to be on the show. And if that wasn’t enough, when I found out my partner was super, top class dancer Cheryl Burke, I flipped. Not only is she gorgeous, but she is the absolute best professional dancer on the show.
I thought this new dancing thing was going to be a challenge for me, but if you’ve followed me, you know that I love a challenge. And with Cheryl being my teacher there’s no way I can fail. For the first five weeks, I had to learn the Foxtrot and the Mambo. “Not a problem,” I thought. Then I had to dance the Foxtrot to James Brown’s music. How the heck am I supposed to be stiff when a song made by the funkiest man ever was playing in the background? And dancing with Cheryl, we actually did make it “A Funky Good Time.” Needless to say, the judges gave us an 18 for the Foxtrot. And I wanted to say, “Look here. You get up here and try to dance all stiff and gentlemanly like to some James Brown song and see what happens.” But I didn’t and focused on the Mambo.
Now it’s time for the Mambo. GREAT!!! I can do those moves in my sleep. I actually think that my former coach used Mambo as one of his training techniques. This is a dance that was loose and allowed me to use my body more. Once again, I was faced with the problem of the song choice, “The Jerk.” You can say that again. This time around we scored a 21. And you know what they say, “Winner, winner, chicken dinner.” That was a good score. It means there is room for improvement, but it also says that we’re moving to the top very quickly. (And everyone knows that I hate being left behind)
The next dance is the Latin Dance of Love, The Rumba. I have three days to learn this sensual dance, but I’m ready. I know that they’re going to stick me with dancing to Michael Jackson “Off the Wall” or Rick James “Bustin’ Out” and expect me to not only be Latin, but also sensual. I hope Cheryl pulls through this OK.
Thank you America for your continuous support, and keep voting for me and I promise that I will not let you down.

maurice, last year I acquired several of your peronal items in Los Angeles. I have a scrapbook that was put together for you by either yourself or a loved one that dates back to your early track years. It includes signed photographs of you, including Olympic team photos, some of you with your best friend, several personal sketches (do you draw too?), several magazines and awards from Kansas and so much more. Are you interrested in getting these items back?
My husband and I have been rooting for you on Dancing w/the Stars and hope you WIN! You are a terrific dancer and seem to be a really great guy! Good Luck!
