ARF's Stars to the Rescue XVIII
Save the date! Please join ARF at 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek, California for ARF's 18th anniversary Stars to the Rescue gala.
This fabulous evening of music and entertainment will include soft rock duo from the 70’s and 80’s, Air Supply. Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock became instant friends with their common love for the Beatles and singing. After forming Air Supply, they spent the late 70’s opening for Rod Stewart across Australia and throughout the United States and Canada before signing with Clive Davis of Arista Records in 1980. ‘Lost in Love’ became the fastest selling single in the world and leaped to the top of the charts. The second single ‘All Out of Love’ went up the charts even faster. Seven top-five singles later, Air Supply equaled the Beatle’s run of consecutive top five singles. The albums ‘Lost in Love’, ‘The One That You Love’, ‘Now & Forever’ and ‘The Greatest Hits’ sold in excess of 20 million copies. ‘Lost in Love’ was named “song of the year” in 1980, and with the other singles sold over 10 million copies.
Also appearing on stage will be Tony Orlando, one of America's most endearing and enduring stars, who brings to the stage a warmth and exhilarating energy that electrifies an audience. From million selling records (five number one hits), a popular television variety series, movies and Broadway (Barnum and Smokey Joe's Cafe), Tony Orlando has conquered every facet of show business.
A passionate lifelong music lover, Billy Bob Thornton has been playing and following music all his life. In a musical universe where far too many still haven’t found what they’re looking for, Billy Bob has finally happened upon true musical happiness with life as a Boxmaster. The Boxmasters are really a combination of the Beatles, the Monkees and the Turtles with Del Reeves and Buck Owens and Merle Haggard — all put together.”
Once again, Moving Arts Dance will grace the Lesher stage with one of their articulate and eloquent performances. Blending humor, grace, compassion and sorrow with striking visual effects and athletic physicality is the trademark of Moving Arts Dance. Directed by Anandha Ray, the company produces works of dance art that reach into the world's emotional realities. Building on the strengths of ballet and modern styles of dance these contemporary dancers demonstrate strong classical technique blended with a kinetic understanding of movement and an emotional ability to arouse audiences.
Accompanying Moving Arts Dance is Marc Russo. Marc, a long-standing member of the Doobie Brothers, has been ARF’s Stars to the Rescue musical director for many years. Marc is a legendary saxophonist and composer who has played with Tower of Power, Huey Lewis and the News and Kenny Loggins. Marc also composed and produced a solo CD for JVC Records titled “The Window.”

Upon the induction of Vince Gill into the esteemed Country Music Hall of Fame in 2007, Kyle Young of the Country Music Foundation said ”Vince Gill is quite simply a living prism refracting all that is good in country music. He uses the crystal planes of his songwriting, his playing, and his singing to give us a musical rainbow that embraces all men and spans all seasons." Gill has recorded more than twenty studio albums, charted over forty singles on the U.S. Billboard charts as Hot Country Songs, and has sold more than 22 million albums. He has been honored by the Country Music Association with 18 CMA Awards, including two Entertainer of the Year awards and five Male Vocalist Awards. Gill has also earned 19 Grammy Awards, more than any other male Country music artist.
Grammy-winning and Academy Award-nominated American rock entertainer Huey Lewis of The News had several hit songs during the 1980s and early 1990s. His greatest success was in the 1980s with the surprise #1 album, Sports, and a series of hit singles. His worldwide fame expanded when the song, "The Power of Love" was utilized as a key track in the film, Back to the Future. In 2007, Garth Brooks released a duet with Huey, with a cover of "Workin' For a Living". The single reached the top 25 on the Billboard Country chart.
Take a trip back in time while listening to the songs of REO Speedwagon, compliments of Kevin Cronin and Dave Amato. Kevin first joined REO Speedwagon in 1972 for the album R.E.O./T.W.O. on which he wrote three tracks. In 1977, Kevin took over the band's production along with Gary Richrath, and has since been a tireless frontman, writing many of the band's most popular tracks, including their first top 40 hit, “Roll With the Changes” and their first number one, “Keep On Loving You.” Dave Amato joined REO in 1989 for the album The Earth, A Small Man, His Dog, and a Chicken, after playing with Ted Nugent and Bon Jovi's Richie Sambora. He has also toured extensively with Cher. Besides playing guitar, he sings high harmonies and has done studio background vocals for various groups from Petra to Motley Crue.
An American Comedy Award winner, Kathleen Madigan’s accessible and unpretentious style has earned her a devoted and growing following. Kathleen packs theaters from Nevada to North Carolina and everywhere in between. Kathleen's a mainstay on Comedy Central, performs standup specials on HBO, and is the host of her own weekly show on Sirius Radio Networks, The Kathleen Madigan Show.
In the summer of 2006, three gifted young adults walked into a house hoping to create music together—and Lady Antebellum walked out. The sound that Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood cooked up while hanging at the Nashville-area home of Charles’ brother throughout the summer of 2006 is a unique blend that mingles classic country, 1960s R&B soulfulness and the heart-on-the-sleeve openness of 1970s singer-songwriters, all presented with a razor-sharp contemporary edge. Already the trio has been nominated for “Top New Group” at the 2008 Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards.
Sharing his comedy style which often simulates a mental breakdown or rant, ridiculing history, politics, religion, trends and cultural phenomena is Lewis Black, Grammy Award-winning American stand-up comedian, author, playwright and actor. He hosts Comedy Central's The Root of All Evil and makes regular appearances on The Daily Show delivering his “Back in Black” commentary segment.
Marc Russo, a long-standing member of the Doobie Brothers, has been ARF’s Stars to the Rescue musical director for many years. Marc is a legendary saxophonist and composer who has played with Tower of Power, Huey Lewis and the News and Kenny Loggins. Marc also composed and produced a solo CD for JVC Records titled “The Window.”
Proceeds from Stars will benefit Tony La Russa’s Animal Rescue Foundation as well as many animal rescue organizations in the greater St. Louis area.

4th Annual "Touchdown for Ty"
TRYING TO REACH THAT TOUCHDOWN
A grandparents wish for their grandson, Ty Quandt, is a touchdown in finding a cure for a progressive genetic disorder that is fatal within the first two decades of life called Niemann-Pick type C(NP-C). Ty's family and friends have come together to make that touchdown a reality. We hope you will become a member of the team to fight the opponent, NP-C.
How you can help:
*Contributions through your employer
*In-kind donations - in lieu of cash, the foundation is always in need of in-kind donations such as products and services.
*Volunteering
*Search engine - Use GoodSearch.com for all of you online searches. Besure to select National Niemann-Pick Disease Foundation
*Sponsors
Locally, our family has joined with the Ara Parseghian Medical Research Foundation, which is a volunteer nonprofit organization that funds research projects that will lead to a treatment and cure for Niemann-Pick Type C disorder.
The famed Notre Dame football coach and his family have been devastated by this awful disease. Coach Parseghian's three youngest grandchildren were diagnosed with this disease in 1994. Michael, Marcia and Christa have all lost their battle with Niemann-Pick.
Every January our local community of friends, benefactors and businesses come together to honor and support Ty by presenting a benefit concert and silent auction called "Touchdown for TY" at the Horn Theater at the Community College of Southern Nevada, Cheyenne Campus. Every cent raised from this event goes to the Ara Parseghian Medical Researach Foundation.

The Good Life Experience
Entertainment icon Diddy and NFL great Deion Sanders are set to host a series of star-studded events entitled "The Good Life Experience" along with hometown boxing champion Winky Wright at Tampa Bay's premier nightspot The Venue January 29-31.
"The Good Life Experience" will be a series of uniquely-themed celebrity driven events and parties with limited access to the general public and boasts a celebrity-packed guest list with first-class entertainment and hospitality.
"When I called Deion and Diddy to ask them to join me in creating three first-class nights unlike anything Tampa Bay has ever seen, I was very excited when they both said 'yes,'" said Winky Wright, the former undisputed light middleweight world champion and current middleweight contender.
Wright is set to welcome co-host Diddy at the initial event Thursday, January 29 titled "Champions of the Good Life." This "Vegas Fight Night" themed extravaganza will not only launch the "The Good Life Experience" series with celebrity friends in attendance, but also Wright's new charitable foundation.
"I am honored to have a portion of the proceeds from this event go to The Winky Wright Foundation, as well as The Charity for Women," added Wright. "To launch my foundation in the company of local friends, national celebrities and the beneficiaries of these charities is a blessing."
The trio will move towards the remaining two nights with Deion hosting Friday's "Legends of The Good Life" and Diddy hosting "Icons of The Good Life" a Diamonds and Pearls themed Gala on Saturday.
"I am extremely excited to join Winky and Diddy as a host, and to take some time to celebrate 'The Good Life' with my closest friends, teammates and football fans," said Deion Sanders while in the midst of the National Football League season as a commentator for NFL Networks.
"This season is going to be very exciting," added Sanders. "No matter who is in 'the big game,' these three nights are sure to be memorable."
