Donnie Edwards Jump for Life Foundation
Jump for Life program's mission is to tackle obesity through nutrition, physical activity and goal setting.
According to the Surgeon General, there are nine million overweight children nationwide, representing an alarming increase over the past three decades. Children who are overweight or obese are at risk of developing high blood pressure, high cholesterol, asthma, and Type 2 diabetes, among other serious physical problems. Type 2 diabetes is a particular concern, as it now is being found in children at increasing rates. Overweight and obese children also are more likely to have weight problems in adulthood. Physically fit children generally have better memory, concentration, and energy levels. They are likely to be healthier physically and emotionally, and are more inclined to carry their healthy lifestyle into adulthood. In 2003 "Jump For Life" was founded by Donnie Edwards to help children lead healthier lives. This year alone Donnie has spoken to over 10,000 children in San Diego County school assemblies. The out pouring of support from the schools and after school programs has been overwhelming and productive. With Donnie expressing in his appearances the knowledge of nutrition, understanding the importance of physical fitness and setting goals, we are helping our youth get back on track.
